WELLSTON, OKLAHOMA — Joe Flake, a Wellston firefighter who joined the department after retiring from a career as a truck driver, has died at the age of 65 following a medical emergency while assisting crews at a large wildfire in Lincoln County.

Flake died Monday, September 7, 2026, after being transported to a hospital following the emergency. His death was announced by the Wellston Fire Department and later confirmed by family members.
